Yes, there are places selling burgers in Queenstown that aren’t Fergburger or Devil Burger.
That said, these two serve up a good vegan burger! But I’ve slowly begun to make my way around to the different restaurants in Queenstown that serve up vegan burgers.
The map below has the places I’ve been to so far. I’ll continue below the map with a few notes from each one.
MAP OF SOME PLACES THAT SERVE VEGAN BURGERS IN QUEENSTOWN
These are the options in the post (they’re clickable).
1. Smiths Craft Beer House
2. Devil Burger
3. Lord of the Fries
4. The Ballarat Trading Co.
5. Fergburger
6. World Bar
7. Cargo at Gantley’s
8. Pig & Whistle
9. The Locker Room
Quick Note: The Ballarat Trading Co. and World Bar are available for booking on First Table where you can get 50% of your food.
1. SMITHS CRAFT BEER HOUSE
Smiths Craft Beer House doesn’t shout about their burger, but any craft beer house that doesn’t feature a burger on their menu should be looked at with suspicion.
They’ve only got the one vegan burger on the menu usually, but wow! It’s amazing.
If you want to find some of the best burgers and craft beers in Queenstown, Smiths Craft Beer House is for you. The vegan burger with the ‘pulled pork’ was insanely good.

The atmosphere varies a lot here. During the week it’s usually pretty quiet, but they get can get busy on a Friday and Saturday with the voices of beer drinkers echoing around the building. They also host stand-up comedy nights from time to time (check the Facebook page) which are fun.
They’ve been a staple in Queenstown for a while now, and are known for having super friendly staff.
You’d be hard-pressed to head to Smiths without having a couple of beers and/or ciders (they have some quirky flavours) so it’s not a budget-friendly place. You can get the burger takeaway though.
Address: 53 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300

2. DEVIL BURGER
I’m not sure how the Devil Burger vs Fergburger duel came about, but no doubt it has provided Devil Burger with lots of free marketing as they piggyback onto the phenom that is Ferg.
Devil Burger has a couple of veggie burger options that can be made vegan. The interior of Devil Burger is inviting which makes ordering a beer while you wait hard to turn down. If you can get a seat in front of the fireplace, you’re winning at life.
Add in the fact they serve Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and you could easily find yourself spending a couple of hours here.

The price point is similar to Ferg, and it’s never going to have queues as long, so if you want a burger that’s cult-like among locals vs the international cult-like following Ferg has, give Devil Burger a go.
p.s. You’ll notice Devil Burger partners with a few pubs around town as well (e.g. Perky’s) so if someone doesn’t want a burger and you do, take them to one of these places and you’ll both be happy.
p.p.s. Order your burger from Devil takeaway, walk to Four Square and grab a few beers, then pick up your burger and head to Queenstown Beach for burgers and beers on the beach. Dinner perfection on the cheap.

3. LORD OF THE FRIES
Lord of the Fries is a chain, not as famous as BurgerFuel, but they’re 100% vegan so you’ve got plenty of burger options. It’s the only 100% vegan option on this list, so if you want to support that, make Lord of the Fries happen.
I really did enjoy my burger from here…but it’s not really an experience that you’ll remember fondly. If there were other food trucks in the vicinity it could be different, but it’s on its lonesome so lacks an atmosphere.
That said, if you’re starving after coming down from the some of the top Queenstown activities, Ben Lomond track, or Tiki Trail, Lord of the Fries is perfectly located. And you can eat the burger while you amble back to your accommodation. Win.
Address: 27 Brecon Street, Queenstown 9300

4. THE BALLARAT TRADING CO.
The Ballarat Trading Co. is on a pedestrian-only street. This makes for great people watching from the outdoor seating.
There’s only one vegan burger option, the Mushroom Cloud (they’ll adapt it to be vegan). And when they’ve got it on the $10 special you can’t go wrong at this Queenstown institution.
It must be a good institution if they’ve got Tui on tap (this is an inside joke).
I can imagine the interior is cozy during the Queenstown winters/a>, but in the summer it felt super dark. Aim to grab a seat out the front and watch all the people go past. Preferably on an afternoon when they’ve got live music.
Address: 7/9 The Mall, Queenstown 9300

5. FERGBURGER
Fergburger needs no introduction of course.
That’s the million-dollar question and is usually judged on how long you have to wait, as the value price-wise/taste-wise is great.
If you love these kinds of places that don’t need to market themselves as their word of mouth is so strong, then, by all means, go during dinner time when you’ll have a long wait in the queue. Otherwise, you’ll probably want to go elsewhere for your vegan burger in Queenstown.
If you visit at off-peak times, you can sometimes get straight to the front of the queue. That’s a win.
Ferg…it’s an experience that’s for sure. You’ll know if it’s the kind of experience you’d enjoy. If it is, GO GO GO!
Address: 42 Shotover Street, Queenstown 9300

6.WORLD BAR
World Bar is another institution in Queenstown. They’ve gone through various incarnations throughout the years, but have always been a spot visitors and locals will head to on a night out.
They’ve got various vegan options, including a burger. World Bar is best suited if you’re planning a night out with friends and need a bigger table.
You can go for a burger and some drinks before the tables start to get moved to the side allowing those with (and without) dance moves to strut their stuff.
Personally, I didn’t love the burger so maybe it’s just me but I’d look to eat elsewhere before coming here later in the evening.
Address: 12 Church Street, Queenstown 9300

7. CARGO AT GANTLEY’S
Cargo at Gantley’s is well known for the beers they have on tap and bottles, but their food game is getting better and better!
The menu does change often, but they’re pretty good at always having one vegan burger on their menu. On my last visit, the burger was a Bhaji Burger:
crispy courgette bhaji, fire-roast eggplant, rocket, tomato, aioli, XOXO, jalapeno chermoula, and pickles on a Tumeric bun.
This is the first burger I’ve had with bhaji in it…I thought it was creative, and it was amazing! The burger could have been bigger but once the chips were finished I was more than happy with this meal…washed down with a hazy of course.
This is a great vegan burger to eat on the way down from Coronet Peak or a summer’s afternoon/evening.
Address: 172 Arthurs Point Road, Arthurs Point, Queenstown 9371

8. PIG & WHISTLE
The Pig & Whistle is a well-known pub in Queenstown that attracts a mix of locals and tourists.
The atmosphere varies quite a bit depending on what kind of crowd is in there at the time, but I like it mid-week when people are there for a few beers and dinner.
The burgers are quite expensive! And in fairness, they’re not the biggest…so try and get there on a night where they’ve got all burgers for $10 (chips included).
The Mediterranean Veggie Burger was able to be made vegan (they take out the halloumi and mayo) and loved the kumara pattie. Add in some beetroot and you’ve got a real winner for me. Add in some other veggies and this is a real good deal.
Only if you find yourself there for some beers and need some dinner would I consider getting the burger at $27.
Address: 41 Ballarat Street, Queenstown 9300
Online: Facebook | Website
9. THE LOCKER ROOM
When I think of a sports bar, I certainly don’t think of a place that caters to vegans, but The Locker Room has shown me up.
They’ve got a whole vegan menu, which includes a ‘beef’ and ‘chicken’ burger.
I went with the beef burger which is described as: NO BEEF burger patty, vegan cheese, relish, lettuce + vegan mayo.
At $14 the burger is solid in terms of price, add on some waffle fries for $5 and you’ve got yourself a solid meal. The burger isn’t out of this world, but I’ll definitely get it again as the vegan cheese and patty were awesome.
If you’re looking to catch a match at The Locker Room, don’t worry about finding a feed before you go as the food is good as gold here at a good price.
Address: 10 Brecon Street, Queenstown 9300

Hi Jub, are any of these vegan burgers gluten free as well?
Hey Haze,
I know that the Fergburger, Devil Burger, and Lord of the Fries can do gluten-free options 🙂 (I’m not 100% clued in on what’s involved in gluten-free but I’m confident these three can do both vegan and gluten-free). I’d try them first!
Cheers,
Jub
