If you’re looking for a sports bar in Queenstown to watch live sport on TV, The Locker Room is where you’ll likely end up. It’s the only real sports bar in Queenstown 🙂

They’ve got plenty of TVs spread over two levels so you can see the action from wherever you’re sitting which is the #1 rule. Yay for not breaking that.

Add in some cheap (and not so cheap) beer options, North American sports pub grub (with a separate vegan menu), a pool table, and memorabilia, and you’ve got an awesome sports bar experience.

I’ll often pop in here when a friend is keen to watch a game of rugby, and if you want an awesome atmosphere to watch the All Blacks in Queenstown, The Locker Room is the place to be in town.

WHAT’S ON AT THE LOCKER ROOM

They’re open 7 days a week, from midday to late so if there’s any big sports event on in NZ, they’ll be showing it here.

And if there’s a big event overseas? They’ll often open early/stay open later to cater to that crowd.

Each week they post on their social media pages what they’re planning to show for the week. And if you head into the bar itself, they’ve got a full board (see above) for the month showing what you can expect.

FOOD AT THE LOCKER ROOM

If you’re planning to spend a few hours at The Locker Room, there’s no need to go to another one of the restaurants in Queenstown before you come here. They’ve got a rock solid, and well priced menu, featuring classic sports bar pub grub that you’d see in North America.

Think hot dogs, burgers, poutine, fries etc.

And in the most surprising twist, they’ve got a separate vegan menu which is awesome. The vegan menu is essentially the same as the regular menu, just veganised. I wish more restaurants did this, it’d make being vegan in Queenstown much easier.

I’ve ordered two burgers from The Locker Room (both vegan). I preferred the chicken burger, it reminds me of the burgers at Lord of the Fries up the road for some reason.

“CHICKEN” BURGER
NO CHICKEN schnitzel with the sauce of your choice + coleslaw.

“BEEF” BURGER
NO BEEF burger patty, vegan cheese, relish, lettuce + vegan mayo.

They’re not fancy burgers, but they’re exactly how they describe the food. North American. And they’re legit yummy. I’ll order food again when I head back here.

Both burgers are $14 which is a good price for a vegan burger in Queenstown (with cheese).

And you can turn it into a meal for an extra $5 which gives you the choice of fries, waffle fries, tater tots, or onion rings. I love waffle fries, it’s a no-brainer.

You can view the full menu here (scroll to the bottom for vegan options).

DRINKS

In Queenstown, craft beer is my usual goto, but I do like being able to come to The Locker Room and get a pretty cheap jug of lager ($25), The Locker Room Lager. They’ve got plenty of other beer on tap too.

And yes, they’ve got wine and cocktails for you that are that way inclined.

THE ATMOSPHERE

During the week, and weekends when there are no major sports events happening, the atmosphere is lowkey here. People are generally sticking to themselves. It helps that The Locker Room is becoming known for its good food at good prices so people will stop by for the food and catch whatever happens to be on.

Upstairs you’ve got a pool table, shuffleboard, and foosball so it’s a super-easy way to spend a few hours, particularly on a rainy day in Queenstown.

When the All Blacks are playing, the atmosphere is unreal (as was State of Origin, as seen above). The place is full, get here early for the best seats. Everyone gets into the game, and with Queenstown being a place where lots of tourists come, there’s always going to be a healthy amount of people from the opposition here to increase the tension fun.
