When a couple of friends and I were feeling inspired to play tennis one day, we struggled to find any free tennis courts in Queenstown.
Finding info on where to find tennis courts in Queenstown wasn’t easy. But it turns out there’s plenty now that I’m more conscious of spotting them in my day-to-day life.
Below you’ll find a map of the tennis courts in Queenstown I’ve found. I’ll describe what you can find at each facility, whether they’re free/number of courts/surface type.
Notes:
- I won’t be able to keep this post up to date in terms of if they have nets up…but they all do the date this post goes live.
- You can hire racquets at some options, but you can also pick up racquets and balls from the Queenstown opshops like we did and be ready to play for less than $20.
TENNIS COURTS IN QUEENSTOWN

WILLIAM STREET TENNIS COURTS, SUNSHINE BAY

- Court type: Concrete
- Free? Yes
- Notes: This court doesn’t get a lot of sun in the winter so is often damp.
FERNHILL COURTS

- Court type: Concrete
- Free? Yes
- Notes: These courts are tucked away, and a often empty in my experience.
QUEENSTOWN TENNIS CLUB COURTS

- Court type: Grass
- Free? No. Non-members can book here for $40/hour.
- Notes: If you’re going to play somewhat regularly here, it makes sense to join as a member. When you book a court, racquets and balls are available to use.
BREAKFREE THE POINT COURTS

- Court type: Concrete
- Free? It’s for hotel guests only. You can book the hotel here.
QUEENSTOWN EVENTS CENTRE COURTS

- Court type: Concrete
- Free? No. You need to book them with the events centre for $16-20/hour. Equipment hire: $5.
FRANKTON BEACH COURTS

- Court type: Artificial
- Free? No. These are affiliated with the Events Centre and are $16-20/hour.
JACKS POINT COURTS

- Court type: Hardcourt
- Free? Yes.
MILLBROOK RESORT COURTS

- No. of courts: 3
- Court type: 1 plexipave hard court & 2 grass courts that can be used in the summer.
- Free? It is for Millbrook Resort guests and members.
ARROWTOWN TENNIS CLUB COURTS
