With Queenstown being a popular destination for tourists and backpackers, there’s enough demand for several op shops in Queenstown.
This post will detail the three Queenstown op shops that people tend to visit in my experience (which is mainly with people staying here for 3 – 12 months)…they’re all close to each other which helps (as in less than a 5 minute walk away).
3 QUEENSTOWN OP SHOPS
1. SALVATION ARMY
Address: 71 Gorge Road, Queenstown 9300
This is the most popular op shop in Queenstown out of the three in my experience.
It doesn’t feel as tidy as the other two below, but that might be because there’s such a large array of things always coming in that it’s hard to keep things organised.
My favourite purchase from here was a tennis racquet for $5 that’s still useable after lots of outings on the tennis courts around Queenstown.
If you’re looking for second-hand gear for the ski fields, they have some here and at the Hospice Shop.
Note: The Salvation Army has had some negative press in 2022 about the price of some of the stuff there.
2. HOSPICE SHOP
Address: 106 Gorge Road, Queenstown 9300
This is the backup to Salvation Army, but that’s mostly because it’s slightly further away from town.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for at the Salvation Army or SPCA, you head to the Hospice Shop.
The Hospice Shop has a large space across two floors so there’s a good chance you’ll find something you’re looking for. In my experience this is the best out of the three if you’re looking to pick up some books, they’ve got a large selection.
3. SPCA
Address: 51 Gorge Road, Queenstown 9300
This is the newest of the op shops in Queenstown, opening in mid-2021. I haven’t really determined where the SPCA is going to fit in compared to the other three yet, but as a fan of animals…got the SPCA!
The shop is smaller than the other two, and when I last visited still wasn’t overflowing with things.
There was lots of clothing, so perhaps you can find yourself a great item that others don’t get because they don’t think of visiting the SPCA Op Shop in Queenstown…yet.
4. FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE
I only said there was going to be three, but here’s another idea you might not have thought of.
It’s crazy what kind of things you’ll find on the Facebook Marketplace in Queenstown. With a transient population, there are always people leaving Queenstown and need to get rid of their things, and the place to do that now is Facebook.
I find the Marketplace isn’t the easiest place to navigate, but friends say otherwise.
They’ve definitely picked up some great deals on there, including some ice hockey equipment which isn’t seen in NZ often!
I hope you enjoy shopping at the op shops in Queenstown 🙂 Maybe it’s on your list of things to do in Queenstown?
If you’ve got any questions about them, let me know.
Hey, it’s Jub here. I’m the guy behind Chur New Zealand, helping you have the best time hiking, trekking, walking…whatever you want to call it…in NZ. I’m based in Queenstown and am always out and about exploring trails, old & new. If you have any questions, reach out.
Thanks helpful. Addresses would be amazing.
Heyya,
Added now 🙂
Cheers,
Jub
What about the CanShop in Frankton – Remarkables Park? Awesome OpShop and all funds stay local to support people with cancer.
Hey Marie,
Thanks for the headsup! I’ll go check out CanShop in the next few weeks and add it to the list 🙂
Cheers,
Jub
Hi, I have two couches in very good condition. Do the op shops pick up furniture?
Hey Kate,
The Salvation Army has a truck that can do pickups (last time I looked). Best to give them a call.
Cheers,
Jub
