Yay! Driving around New Zealand in a campervan is awesome. But what are the best NZ campervan apps you need to download?
Well, you don’t HAVE to download any of these. But there’s no harm in downloading them all, playing around with them, and then deleting the ones that aren’t going to be of any use.
6 OF THE BEST CAMPERVAN APPS FOR NZ
1. GASPY
This is one of the top NZ travel apps everyone should get when driving around New Zealand. Especially with the way petrol prices are going these days, so much so that knowing how efficient a vehicle is plays a roll in buying a campervan in NZ.
This app crowdsources the latest fuel prices at petrol stations all around the country. And people update the prices regularly! When your tank starts to go low, open up the app and look to see where you can buy the cheapest fuel in the area. As you can see in the screenshot above, there’s a significant difference in these two Wanaka petrol stations.
I like that this app focuses on being great at one little thing.

2. CAMPERMATE
Campermate is a very popular app for those who are freedom camping a lot in New Zealand. Two of the most useful features I find are the pins for the public toilets and water fountains.
But you’ll also get locations for all the paid/free campgrounds, and a lot of them will have recent reviews which is handy. And from time to time you can get last-minute deals on campsites which can be super handy.

3. HOLIDAY PARKS NZ
The Holiday Parks NZ app was created by the Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand. These people work with the Government which does help give the app some credibility. The app does have a lot of the same features as the Campermate App, so you might find you have a preference for one over the other.
This app will give you alerts regarding nearby hiking tracks via the NZ Mountain Safety Council which can be a useful feature from time to time.

4. CAMPABLE
Campable focuses on offering accommodation options for campervan travellers across the country. And you’ll find some unique options on the app which is cool. And they can all be booked within the app.
The Campable app gives you access to NZ’s best sites for camping and motorhome travel. Stay the night on private properties for a true local experience.
The explore function is great, and depending on which part of the country you’re travelling through you might find yourself staying at a resort, a dairy farm, vineyard, or on a beach to name a few options.
Like Gaspy, I like the simplicity of this app. It’s definitely not necessary, but you never know what you might find out there.

5. RANKERS CAMPING NZ APP
Rankers is an app that primarily focuses on providing campsites that you’re legally allowed to stay in (approved via councils) across the country. They also personally work with holiday parks across the country, and DOC to ensure that the information provided on their app is up to date as possible.
You’ll also find attractions, amenities, and hikes throughout the country like you’ll find on campermate, and Holiday Parks NZ.
The Founders also place a heavy focus on reviews from travellers. As far as going to travellers on an inidividual basis asking for reviews, I love that!
Alternatively, you can download this topo and that’ll show you DOC spots too.

6. ROADY
If you’re a big list person, the Roady app might be for you…it could help keep the kids entertained too. It’s essentially one massive things to do list in an app. While it’s simple in concept, you could use this if you’ve got a long driving day with no plans…you might stumble across something random.
It’s super easy to use (though can load slowly sometimes). And there is a gamification aspect to it which will entertain the kids. In saying that, you might find ourself going to all sorts of places just to complete a challenge which could be good or bad.

I hope some of these apps will be added to your list of general apps for travelling NZ.
