ACCOMMODATION NEAR MARTINBOROUGH
1. MARTINBOROUGH HOTEL
Alright, this is accommodation in Martinborough but I have to get it out of the way before moving on to the other interesting options.
The Martinborough Hotel is right in the heart of town and is a part of the furniture.
There’s a charm about staying at a hotel in the middle of a small town, one that’s particularly historic and a centrepiece of Martinborough. After being restored in 1996 some elements of the hotel from the past remain, adding character, comfort, and old-style personal attention.
The rooms are lovely with a few different options. The Kitchener Library is cool offering a range of books and a gas fireplace to snuggle up to. Outside is the garden courtyard with beautiful roses and tree.

2. TE KOPI COTTAGE
While most DOC accommodation means buy tickets to stay in backcountry huts, this is a DOC property with a difference.
Down on the southern coastline an hour or so from Martinborough theres a beautiful cottage, Te Kopi, owned by DOC. This is perfect for those looking for group accommodation near Martinborough. Well it’s not exactly near, but it gives you easy access to several attractions in the area.
There’s the cottage which sleeps six people and two cabins that two people can sleep in each.
For a remote cottage, there’s actually a good amount of facilities (you will need to bring your own bedding):
- Electric lighting
- Heatpump
- Hot shower and bath
- Fully equipped kitchen
The fees for four people are $160/night (minimum 2-night stay). For each extra person, it’s $20/person.
You can book the cottage in advance here.
3. KAWAKAWA STATION GLAMPING
Established in 1919 you can go glamping over the summer season (October to Apil) on Kawakawa Station.
Again, this place isn’t exactly in Martinborough, but it’s a luxurious place to stay.
Whether it’s bird song, isolation, wild coastlines, or greenery…this location has it all.Including trees to make Kawakawa tea!
You’ll sleep in a Queen bed, and have first-world amenities like a hot shower, flushing toilet, BBQ, and a small fridge.
And if you’ve got kids, there are other tent options for them. Starting at $250/night, this isn’t cheap, but it’s going to be memorable.
